Ian H. Solomon joined the University of Chicago in June 2013 as the Vice President for Global Engagement.
In this role, he supports a growing number of international programs and partnerships, overseas centers and campuses, research collaborations, and global education opportunities. While helping to steward programs already under way, he collaborates with faculty, deans and University administrators to lead the development of University strategies for engagement in key regions.
Solomon came to Chicago from the World Bank Group, where he served as United States Executive Director from 2010 to 2013. Prior to that he worked as senior advisor to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, and also served as legislative counsel to Senator Barack Obama. Solomon was previously associate dean at Yale Law School, where he also earned his JD.
Solomon is originally from New York City, and earned his AB magna cum laude from Harvard University. He has traveled extensively in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, and has also lived in South Africa. He is the recipient of numerous awards and designations, and in 2012 was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
