Associate Vice President for Finance
Brett Padgett joined the University of Chicago in October 2017 and became interim Chief Financial Officer in July 2021.
As the interim CFO, he is responsible for overseeing the University’s financial operations, working with the President, Provost, Board of Trustees, Deans, and Officers to ensure that our financial services, fiscal strategy, and operational analyses best support the academic mission and priorities of the University. In addition to overseeing all aspects of Financial Services, Internal Audit and Compliance, and Risk Management, he also oversees Information Technology Services, Human Resources, and Shared Services.
As the AVP for Finance, Padgett is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining business processes that support the goals of the University through effective and conscientious management of financial resources.
Prior to joining the University, Padgett spent more than 20 years in investment banking for state and local government clients. He has experience with complex project finance and capital markets transactions and previously served as Head of the Financial Structuring Group at JP Morgan’s municipal bond business.
Padgett holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Texas and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, Mendoza College of Business. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy in which he served as a Special Operations Officer.
