Acting Chief Financial Officer
John R. Kroll was appointed the Acting Chief Financial Officer of the University of Chicago in September 2016. As Acting CFO, he oversees the University’s financial operations, ensuring through analysis, discipline, and organization that they best support and serve the academic mission and priorities of the University.
Previously Kroll had served as Associate Vice President for Finance and had responsibilities for seven major areas: University accounting, financial reporting, cash management, post award administration, payroll, accounts payable, and procurement.
Kroll came to the University of Chicago from Deloitte & Touche, where he was primarily involved with accounting and auditing services for colleges and universities, other nonprofit organizations, and governmental units. He is a certified public accountant and past chair of the Accounting Principles Council of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). He has received NACUBO’s Daniel D. Robinson Award and NACUBO’s Professional Development Award for his contributions to higher education professional development activities and publications.
