Winter Recess

To: All Faculty, Other Academic Appointees, Postdoctoral Researchers, and Staff
From: Robert J. Zimmer, President, and Ka Yee C. Lee, Provost
Subject: Winter Recess
Date: November 25, 2020

We are pleased to announce that, in appreciation of University of Chicago staff members’ exceptional dedication and hard work this year, we are offering staff employees a one-time benefit of four extra paid days off next month, from December 28 to December 31.

This Winter Recess, which will fall between the scheduled University holidays of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, is recognition of staff members’ extraordinary efforts to continue the business of the University and support our academic and research excellence in these difficult times.

We plan to close all non-essential functions during this period. Employees who support essential functions related directly to the health, safety, and welfare of the University as well as certain critical research functions may be required to work during Winter Recess; therefore, we are offering these essential employees up to four additional personal days between January 2 and June 30, 2021.

You can find more details about Winter Recess here, and HR representatives will also provide more details to employees and supervisors.

Thank you again for your unwavering commitment and contributions to the University and our campus community throughout this challenging year. We hope you have a good Thanksgiving and enjoy your well-deserved extra time off next month.
