Subject: Inauguration of Paul Alivisatos
Date: September 13, 2021

Dear Members of the University of Chicago Community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to invite you to save the date for the Inauguration of Paul Alivisatos as the 14th president of the University of Chicago at 10:00am CT on October 29, 2021. The ceremony will take place on campus, at Rockefeller Chapel, and will be preceded by the traditional faculty and delegate processional. The Inauguration is a time-honored opportunity for representatives of the University community to welcome President Alivisatos to his new role, and for him to share insights into his vision for the future of our work together, supporting and advancing the University of Chicago.

Due to the continual shifts in health and safety guidance, it is likely that we will need to limit in-person attendance at Rockefeller Chapel, but the ceremony will be viewable via live stream. We are also exploring the possibility of hosting watch parties to allow the University community to safely gather and experience this pivotal moment together. Formal invitations and additional viewing information will be forthcoming.

This moment in the University’s long history represents an exciting opportunity to work with President Alivisatos to honor those values that make the University of Chicago a singular destination, while also identifying and cultivating new opportunities to advance the University’s engagement and impact around the world. I hope you will mark your calendar and join me in celebrating this new chapter for the University of Chicago.

Sincerely,

Joe Neubauer, MBA’65
Chair, University of Chicago Board of Trustees
