Ivan Samstein

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to share that Ivan Samstein has been appointed as the enterprise chief financial officer of the University of Chicago and UChicago Medicine. In this role, he will provide executive financial leadership for the University and for UChicago Medicine. Ivan will coordinate the financial infrastructure across our institution, ensuring that our strategic financial plans support the intuition’s ambitious growth agenda and advance our academic, research, and healthcare missions.

With a focus on both central and decentralized financial operations, Ivan will work to align our financial strategies with our institutional priorities. His leadership will play a crucial role in fostering collaboration across the University and UChicago Medicine to drive sustainable growth and innovation. In addition to these enterprise-wide responsibilities, Ivan will serve as the University’s financial liaison for important community health and economic development projects.

Ivan’s extensive experience in financial management, which spans healthcare, higher education, government finance, and capital markets—and have included years of service to the University—have prepared him well for this expanded portfolio. Reporting jointly to Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs Mark Anderson and myself, Ivan will continue to be a critical strategic partner to university and health system leadership, including trustees, deans, and vice presidents, as well as a key member of my executive team.

Please join me in congratulating Ivan on this well-deserved appointment. I look forward to the continued success of his leadership as we work together to support the limitless potential of the University, UChicago Medicine, and the broader community we serve.

Sincerely,

Paul
