Regarding Fermilab's Leadership
Dear Colleagues,
I write to announce that Lia Merminga has decided to step down from her role as director of Fermilab, effective today. Albert A. Michelson Distinguished Service Professor of Physics Young-Kee Kim will act as the interim director of Fermilab until a permanent replacement is found. As many of you know, Young-Kee’s tenure at the University of Chicago has spanned more than 20 years, and she is no stranger to Fermilab, having served as deputy director from 2006 to 2013. I am very much appreciative of her willingness to lead during this period.
I want to thank Lia for her service to Fermilab as director. Her dedication and passion for high energy physics and Fermilab’s mission have been deeply appreciated. As she continues to serve the lab’s mission, I know you will join me in wishing Lia all the best in her future endeavors.
We are immediately launching the search for a new permanent director. With FermiForward now managing Fermilab, we are moving forward with a vision that will sustain and grow Fermilab’s renown for scientific discovery and innovation and strengthen our foundation of operational excellence across all aspects of the laboratory. This leadership change will bring fresh perspectives and expertise to the Fermilab leadership team.
Sincerely,
Paul
