Christian Mitchell

Dear Colleagues,

Earlier today, Christian Mitchell announced he will be stepping down from his role as Vice President for Civic Engagement to pursue a political opportunity. As vice president, Christian led the Office of Civic Engagement (OCE) where he fostered efforts to the benefit of the University, its surrounding communities, and the broader region–including through federal, state, and local government relations.

As an alumnus of the College, Christian has brought distinct insight and care to his work. He has helped forge partnerships, and he has advanced ambitious economic mobility and opportunity-based initiatives like our healthcare education and workforce development-based partnershipwith the City Colleges of Chicago in Washington Park. Following Christian’s departure on July 18, the University will evaluate how best to advance the many projects that he oversaw.

In the short-term, oversight of day-to-day operations will be provided by Associate Vice President and Chief of Staff Abel Ochoa for OCE and Ben Gibson, Vice President of Government Affairs for UChicago Medicine for federal, state, and local government affairs across the University and medical enterprise. Please join me in appreciation for Christian’s contributions to the University of Chicago and in best wishes for his future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Paul
