Paul Rand

Dear Colleagues,

I write to share that, after eight years of dedicated service, Vice President for Communications Paul M. Rand will be stepping away from his position. Paul’s last day in the role will be August 15. Fortunately, the University of Chicago will continue to benefit from his talents through special projects, including by his hosting the widely regarded Big Brains podcast.

During his tenure, Paul has led a comprehensive transformation of the University’s communications strategy, elevating the visibility and reputation of UChicago as a leading institution for research and education. In doing so, Paul formed, developed, and led a terrific team that has executed new ideas and concepts to great success. A few of these include: The Monday Outlook, daily briefings, the Academic Communicators Networkthe UChicago podcast networkThe CitizenInside UChicago, and special series like the Day Tomorrow Began and Inside the Lab.

Paul has cultivated a robust, collaborative team culture within University Communications and across the campus communicators’ network. During this transition period, Associate Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs Jeremy Manier will be leading the important functions of the central communications team.

I am grateful to Paul for his leadership, creativity, and commitment to the University. His work will have a lasting impact on how UChicago communicates its mission, values, and achievements. Please join me in expressing appreciation to Paul and in wishing him the best in his next chapter. I hope you will join me in celebration of his service at a reception next month.

Sincerely,

Paul
